Where does that money go? I am not just talking about tracking the household spending, but tracking who are the companies and where the products are made.

Alaskan Nits Made in the USA
Moving from Florida to Michigan over the summer I found that I needed to add winter socks to my Christmas list.
My sister who made a vow to buy as much Made in the USA products this Christmas found Alaskan Nits at her Target. Alaskan Nits are made by Renfro Corporation out of Mt. Airy, NC and are made in the USA.
These socks are warm, have reinforced heel & toe, odor control, arch support, have breathable panels and on top of it all are cute. I received a beige pair and a charcoal pair that have cute accent colors on heels and toes.
Renfro Corporation was founded in 1921 and is a global company with operations not only in the USA, China, Canada, Hong Kong, India.
Watch the label to make sure there is a MADE in the USA tag.

Made in the USA gifts received
The next few posts will be what others spent their money on that went to products made in the USA.
I have a friend whose daughter now a teenager gives me a gift related to pigs. The story behind that is another story.
This year she gave me a box of Greeting Cards from Leanin Tree that were made in the USA. It is a variety of 20 cards. I LOVE IT!! Her mother probably pushed her in this direction because for the past year I have had huge issues at getting cards to people on time.
Leanin Tree is a family owned company based in Boulder Colorada. Accordinging to it's website it employes about 205 individuals. They print the cards and envelopes on recycled paper. To find out more about Leanin Tree visit their website.
This was a thoughtful gift in several ways for use and source.
This is the exact set I received Leanin Tree pretty in pink

Pyrex Made in the USA
My husband volunteered me to make four pies for his office potluck. Little did he know that I was the proud owner of only 3 pie plates.
So off I head to the Meijer Store almost positive that there would not be any pie plates that were made in the USA. I was wrong. The first one I found was a Pyrex and yes there was a American Flag on the label. I looked a little deeper to confirm it was MADE in the USA (I have found that sometime there is a little trickery by using an American flag by some companies). I am proud to say that Pyrex did not such trickery.
I snagged the pie plate immediately.

Doughmakers
The loaf pan that I received as a wedding gift had bit the dust. The hint was that you could see rust forming in the corners. I had heard of Doughmakers made by Pebbleware, LLC in Terre Haute, IN and set out on a quest to find a new loaf pan.
I found the brand a few kitchen stores, but no loaf pan then out of the blue on Small Business Saturday there I was in Plymouth, MI and my husband pulls me over to their Doughmakers Display. There on the shelf next to cookie sheets was my new loaf pan.
Does it mean I am aging when I get excited about a new loaf pan??
The salesperson said her daughters loved the cookware and had almost every piece. I haven't used it yet but will over the weekend. Things to remember is not to put in the dishwasher, do not use aerosol non-stick sprays (a solid shortening is best), scratches will not affect its performance.

Living Lettuce
When you buy your veggies at the grocery store I ask again that you look at the country of origin. I know it is winter in the majority of the US but there is still plenty of veggies that are grown in the US. Yes this means that you might have to change your menu while walking through the produce section but flexibility is the key.
A few weeks ago as I was contemplating whether to buy lettuce or not I spied the works "Living Lettuce" Grown in Livingston, TN. Being a TN girl I had to check it out. The use of a plastic container to ship and market the lettuce might cause a bit of dialogue about its use, but because the lettuce is packaged with its roots it is necessary.
As I expected the living lettuce is grown hydroponically. I am familiar with this because I was a member of a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)farm where most of the produce was grown using this growing practice.
This is going to be a weekly staple on my grocery list.
